Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Working Title Revealed, James Gunn Replacement Possibly Found

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might currently be on hold but it looks like Marvel and Disney still have major plans for the highly anticipated sequel. It has just been revealed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick already has a working title, prompting speculations that the studios have found a replacement for James Gunn.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 working title was shared by Production Weekly, confirming that the sequel has been dubbed Hot Christmas. Although the working title isn't much to go on, it's quite surprising that the film has actually been given one considering its current status.

So what does this mean for Vol. 3? There are speculations that Marvel and Disney have found a director who can take over after Gunn's firing. It could also mean that production could push through much sooner than expected.

There have been previous speculations suggesting that Taika Waititi was being considered to direct Vol. 3. After all, the Thor: Ragnarok director reportedly had a meeting with Disney regarding a possible project. However, it turns out that Waititi may have been approached to work on one of the episodes for the Star Wars series The Mandalorian. Nevertheless, some still believe Waititi is being considered to take over for Gunn.

Vol. 3 was expected to begin production earlier this year but the film was put on hold when Gunn was fired for a series of old tweets. The filmmaker had tried to reach out to Marvel and Disney and although there was a meeting, the House of Mouse stood firm with the decision. Gunn has recently been confirmed to write the script for the DC Extended Universe sequel Suicide Squad 2.
