Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Karen Gillan Details In On Nebula and Gamora’s Relationship Changes

On the verge of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 potentially saving Marvel Phase 5 from failing, apart from Marvel no longer hiding which character is expected to vanish from the trilogy franchise, Karen Gillan (who portrays Nebula) opens up on the potential relationship changes between her character and Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora.

Take note, this version of Saldaña’s Gamora is different from the Gamora who finally managed to resolve things between her and Nebula in the Infinity War saga.

While recently speaking with Fandango, Gillan referred to Nebula as the “scapegoated sibling in a toxic family dynamic”, and to that, Gillan added a little joke: “Why am I so intense? You hear it back to yourself and it’s like, ‘Jesus.’”

To which, the actress continued on to say: “It’s really fun, because Nebula started off as this very sadistic, tortured, angry person and gradually she’s just become this completely new being that can let in love and accept love and start to give love, too.”

Gillan added how Nebula’s role has been reversed now that Gamora’s memory of her has been wiped, “I think Gamora has definitely been set back a bit and Nebula can definitely recognize that in her, because she’s seen it in herself, so I think it’s about trying to nurture Gamora back to where she knows that she can — this is so confusing with time travel — where she would be in her future version.”

Considering that Nebula is not the only affected member from the guardians, but even Peter Quill/Star-Lord (portrayed by Chris Pratt), the initial love interest Gamora had in their version of the universe.

Star-Lord lost Gamora upon Thanos sacrificing the love of his life for the sake of achieving his plan to vanquish half of the universe, only to revive her except this version of Gamora is no longer the one Peter had come to love.

But as the actors had initially teased, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is not here to joke around, rather emphasizing the emotional ending everyone’s dragging to see on the big screen.

Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently slated for its theatrical release on May 5, 2023.
