Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: James Gunn Reveals One Song He Couldn't Use

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has once again delivered a truly cool and memorable soundtrack that had audiences feeling nostalgic. However, James Gunn revealed that he had wanted to use one more awesome song in the sequel but failed to secure the rights.

The soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 continued to reflect Peter Quill's taste in music which is now evolving, thanks to the Zune that Yondu Udonta had gifted him. This time, the sequel featured songs from the 90s and early 2000s like Creep by Radiohead and Do You Realize? by The Flaming Lips.

Still, GOTGV3 had the classics like Reasons by Earth Wind and Fire and This Is The Day by The The. However, there was one song that James Gunn hoped to include in the soundtrack.

One fan reached out to the director asking if there was any song he had to leave out of the soundtrack. James Gunn admitted that he had intended to use Russian Roulette by Lords of the New Church in his film. Unfortunately, he was unable to secure the rights to use the song.

This would have been an interesting choice considering the dark tone of Russian Roulette. The song, which was written and released back in 1982, had been inspired by the film Apocalypse Now and would have been a sombre addition to the soundtrack.

Although James Gunn was not able to use Russian Roulette in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the soundtrack still worked perfectly in the end. Since the film dropped, the downloads of the songs in the movie have increased.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 brings back Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, Maria Bakalova, and Sylvester Stallone. Chukwudi Iwuji and Will Poulter join the cast as the High Evolutionary and Adam Warlock, respectively.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now screening in theaters worldwide.
