James Gunn had a pretty solid run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end and according to the director, he's committed to ending the Guardians of the Galaxy film series after the third film.

Longtime fans of the MCU are well aware that the first two Guardians films both featured deaths from major characters who died in heroic fashion. In the first one, adult Groot sacrificed himself to protect his friends but was later reincarnated as Baby Groot.

Vol. 2 featured the extremely emotional death of Yondu who saved Star-Lord during the film's climactic sequence. Now, the question on everyone's mind is which character could suffer the same fate? There have been numerous speculations online over the last couple of months that GOTG Vol. 3 will actually see the death of Rocket Raccoon, as evidenced by the color scheme of the film's title card.

Now, Gunn himself might have just confirmed which character actually dies in the "final" Guardians of the Galaxy film. In a recent tweet, the DCEU director said that GOTG Vol. 3 will "probably" be Dave Bautista's final outing in the MCU. He would then reiterate that it will in fact be the end of the Guardians' story.

It's worth noting that Bautista has also expressed his desire to exit the MCU along with Gunn to explore other acting projects so I guess it's already safe to assume that Drax's time in the franchise is numbered. If that's the case, then expect him to get a proper send-off and a more compelling character arc in Vol. 3.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
