Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Box Office Prediction Suggests Pulling Marvel From Rock Bottom

Marvel Phase 5 may not have been off to a good start with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania receiving the worst reception and box office record for the MCU, however, a new report sheds light on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 picking up Marvel from rock bottom.

Boxoffice Pro projects that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be earning between $120 to $155 million on its opening weekend at the domestic box office. Should the MCU threequel reach the projected numbers, Vol. 3 will surpass 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy ($94.3M) and 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($146.5M) on their opening weekend earnings.

Overall, GOTG 3 is expected to hit between $288 and $403 million domestically, which could potentially beat the final domestic total earnings of GOTG Vol. 1 ($333M) and Vol. 2 ($389M).

While nothing has been confirmed yet, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn confirmed that the third installment is set to be the longest within the franchise, which runs at 2 hours and 29 minutes. It is worth noting that the Guardians threequel’s runtime ties in with Avengers: Infinity War (2018) for being the fourth longest MCU film.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 ran for a total of 2 hours and 2 minutes, while Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was only 44 minutes long.

Considering that the third installment is settled to be the last within Gunn’s franchise, fans are expecting an emotional and heartbreaking ending of their last time seeing the Guardians together on their own film.

Not to mention, fans are quite convinced that Marvel and Gunn are no longer hiding the fact that a major character death will ensue upon the release of the threequel. For now, you can watch the final trailer for GOTG 3 below:

The official synopsis for GOTG 3 reads: “Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is still reeling from the loss of Gamora. However, he must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own.”

Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently slated to be released on May 5.
