Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Concept Art Reveals A Very Different Mantis

Mantis is certainly one of the most awesome characters in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 despite Drax referring to her as being "hideous." Interestingly, Pom Klementieff's character was supposed to have a different look than what ended up in the film.

Marvel Studios' Director of Visual Development Andy Park recently tweeted an unused concept art for Mantis. Park pointed out that the look was actually approved but had to be changed "during the practical FX stage." Take a look at the photo below.

It's certainly an edgier look that could have made Mantis appear more like an insect. Nevertheless, it's still quite different from what comic book fans were expecting. After all, Mantis has green skin in the comics. Perhaps it was a good call to make her appear more human with softer skin that complemented her child-like nature in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

We're certainly looking forward to seeing more of Mantis in the future. Although it is possible that Klementieff will reprise the role in Avengers 4, it is still unclear whether Mantis will be back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 since the sequel has been put on hold. Hopefully, we'll be getting good news from Marvel soon.

Mantis was originally introduced as Ego's assistant in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Since then, she has joined Star-Lord's team and even played a major role in almost defeating Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Unfortunately, Mantis was one of the characters who turned into dust in the film's conclusion.

Find out if Mantis will return in Avengers 4, which is scheduled for release on May 3, 2019.
