Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista was one of the very first to defend James Gunn right after the filmmaker was fired from the director's seat of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Now, the wrestler-turned-actor is back at Gunn's stead, putting the blame on cybernazis.
Taking to Twitter, Bautista decided to go on the offense to defend Gunn from those celebrating his separation from Disney. The filmmaker was fired last weekend after a smear campaign brought back a couple of more-than-a-decade-old tweets that were both offensive and inappropriate.
According to Bautista, what Gunn has been put through is so much bigger than the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie. To the Marvel star, the director's firing was an orchestrated cybernazi attack that managed to turn over Disney. Urging fans to take a stand, Bautista says that things could get worse because Gunn's predicament could happen to anyone.
For those who haven't been able to follow the news surrounding Gunn's story, the cybernazis that Bautista most likely refers to are Michael Cernovich and Jack Posobiec, the two Twitter users who started the smear campaign by digging up Gunn's old tweets. While some netizens might believe that Gunn deserved to get fired, so many others can't believe that Disney decided to separate ways with one of the directors of their best franchise because of a couple of old tweets that no longer represent the man Gunn is today. Not only were the tweets made fourteen years ago, but Gunn also formally apologized for everything that he said were jokes and claims to be a changed man.
