Dave Bautista Backlashes at Disney for Firing James Gunn


Yesterday, we reported that James Gunn was fired as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 by Disney for past Tweets that were offensive and inappropriate. It subsequently created a firestorm between the Marvel community. Dave Bautista responded late last night with the following Tweet:


Bautista is most recently known for his character Drax, which he played in Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2, both Directed by James Gunn. While few other celebrities have yet to respond, the internet has reacted fiercely both in favor and against James Gunn's firing. Many are saying that his Tweets are indefensible, while others point out that he had previously apologized for the offensive Tweets 6 years ago and believed he should be given a second chance:


This isn't the only high profile firing by Disney. ABC, whose parent company is Disney, fired Roseanne Barr and canceled her show earlier this year for making offensive Tweets. It's clear that both fans and studios are holding their creative teams to account for their social media posts, both past, and present. The Twitterverse was quick to compare and contrast Gunn and Roseanne's firings:
