Someone will give Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) some cold shoulders as she leaves Grey Sloan in the return of Grey's Anatomy in February.

Almost everyone in Grey Sloan is expected to give Meredith the proper send-off she deserves and give her the warmest wishes. But one doctor may ignore her departure in Grey's Anatomy. Her maybe-maybe-not boyfriend, Nick (Scott Speedman), may not bid a proper goodbye to Meredith as she's about to leave for Boston.

The Events Before Meredith's Departure

Nick is still annoyed by Meredith's decision to leave for the sake of her daughter, Zola (Aniela Gumbs), without even mentioning her plans to him. He even ends up confronting her about it.

In the new image for the return of Grey's Anatomy, Meredith can be seen having a heart-to-heart talk with the new resident Simone (Alexis Floyd).

The competition among the interns also heats up, with Maggie (Kelly McCreary) preparing to perform a never-before-done partial heart transplant.

Grey's Anatomy to Continue Even Without Ellen Pompeo

Pompeo is one of Grey's Anatomy's original cast members, and she has now decided to leave the show to pursue other interests.

However, though showrunner Krista Vernoff told TVLine that the actress is a "powerhouse and Meredith is iconic," she knew the show would "always had a tremendous cast of actors who can carry any amount of the story."

The Real Reason Ellen Pompeo Leaves Grey's Anatomy

Meanwhile, in Pompeo's recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, she revealed the real reason that pushed her to leave Grey's Anatomy after 19 seasons.

"I feel super happy, but listen, the show has been incredible to me and I've loved a lot of the experience," she told Drew Barrymore, per E! News. "Listen, it's just, I gotta mix it up a little bit."

"I'm 53. My brain is like scrambled eggs," she continued. "I gotta do something new or I'm literally gonna turn into like, you can't do the New York Times crossword puzzle every single day. I mean, 19 years, that's more than people keep their kids in their house like people keep their kids in their house until they're 18 and then they send them off to college. So this is like me like going away to college."'

Pompeo's farewell episode will be seen when Grey's Anatomy returns on February 23.
