Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 will soon be out, and fans are about to see new faces joining the series. In the show’s 17 years on air, a lot of stars have come and gone, but who among the fan favorites can return?
There are only three original cast members left in the series: Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), and Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson). So, how can the old guards return to Grey’s Anatomy Season 19?
The Returning Series Regulars
The series has been known for being unafraid to kill off its main characters, like Mark Sloan (Eric Dane), Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Giannotti), and more.
It also saw the departure of some of the most loved characters, like Christina Yang (Sandra Oh) and Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh), among others, but did you know these stars can return to Grey’s Anatomy Season 19?
Thankfully, some of the series regulars will return, led by Pompeo, who has already expressed her interest in leaving the show.

Fans will also see Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), and Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), to name a few.
Fans will meet the new season regulars, Dr. Simone Griffin (Alexis Floyd) and Dr. Lucas Adams (Niko Terho).
So, who among the past character could return?
Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl)
According to the list created by ScreenRant, Katherine Heigl could top the list of the past characters who could return to Grey’s Anatomy Season 19.

She left the show after six seasons, though she made a cameo in Season 16 after fixing her relationship with Dr. Karev (Justin Chambers). She’s now happy in her life on a farm with her twins.
Though there are no words on when she will return, Heigl has been open to doing the series again.
Alex Karev (Justin Chambers)
Though many love to hate Dr. Karev, it can’t be denied that he’s one of the fan favorites. He was last seen in Season 16 after Chambers decided to pursue other acting opportunities.
Though he can show up anytime in the series, it may not happen soon.

Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh)
Oh left the series in Season 10 and started to further her career in film and TV. She did Killing Eve and The Chair, so she may not return to the series soon.
However, it can’t be denied that Dr. Yang has remained a huge part of the Grey’s universe. Also, Dr. Grey remains “her person,” so it may be no surprise that she may be seen in Grey’s Anatomy Season 19, though only for a brief moment.
