Another alum will make his way to Grey’s Anatomy Season 19. Greg Germann will join the fellow returning star Jesse Williams in the upcoming fifth episode titled When I Get to the Border.

Germann will reprise his role as Tom Koracick, while Williams will again be seen as Jackson Avery. With these returning characters in Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Episode 5, what story are they about to play?

The Return of Greg Germann

Germann left the series after becoming a series regular in Season 17. At the time, his role won his battle against COVID-19 but still lost Teddy (Kim Raver) to Owen (Kevin McKidd).

This made Koracick decide to move to Boston and help Jackson run his mother Catherine’s (Debbie Allen), who will also return to Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Episode 5, Fox Foundation.

In the upcoming episode, Koracick will reach out to Catherine, who’s in Boston, regarding a personal matter. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) also happens to be in the city of Massachusetts, catching up with Jackson.

Germann’s return shouldn’t be a surprise. When he left the show in May 2021, showrunner Krista Vernoff confirmed the actor would be back.

“Greg Germann is a comic genius, and we are so lucky that he brought his talents to our show these last few years,” she said. “We will miss Greg terribly in the day-to-day, but we plan to see Tom Koracick again!”

Jesse Williams Returns to Grey’s Anatomy Season 19

Meanwhile, aside from being a guest star, Williams will also direct Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Episode 5.

It will be the show’s fourth episode that he has helmed.

Williams left the show after 12 seasons—also in Season 17. At the tie, he had decided to leave Grey Sloan to move to Boston to take over the family foundation.

His ex, April (Sarah Drew), followed him and officially relocated there with their daughter. After his exit, Williams made several appearances throughout Season 17 and returned again as a guest star in the Season 18 finale.

It was the time when Jackson and April confirmed they had rekindled their romance offscreen by sharing a sweet kiss in the elevator at Grey Sloan.
