Fans are about to witness the evolution of Colin's (Luke Newton) character in Bridgerton Season 3. Executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers tease the major character development the third Bridgerton will reveal.
Aside from that, viewers will also see more of Colin's romance with Penelope (Nicola Coughlan). So, it looks like Bridgerton Season 3 may mostly focus on these two characters.
The Story of Colin, Penelope's Romance
The series' third season will be adapting the fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, of Julia Quinn's Regency-era romance novels.
It has set its focus on Colin and Penelope's love story, taking their relationship to another level. These two have been friends since they were young.

Now that they have grown up, will they finally turn into loves, especially after it has been revealed that Penelope has always had a crush on Colin?
Colin's Character Development
In the book Inside Bridgerton, via Entertainment Weekly, Beers and Rhimes revealed the major character development Colin would go through.
"He's constantly looking to transform himself," Beer said. As the third son, Colin doesn't know where to put himself. The monarchy only needs an heir and a spare, putting him in a tough spot.
"He wants to be a savior, to be gallant. I don't know if that's a reverberation from being too young to do anything to help his dad or his mom, but he has a strong instinct to rescue the damsel in distress," she added. "You can really see his chest swell when he rescues the Featheringtons."

Alternatively, Rhimes claimed Colin's instinct is to save women, believing doing this will help him fulfill his purpose.
"He really is in love with the idea of doing the right thing more than the thing itself," she continued. "But I do love him for it, this fixation on honor. I think it's very interesting."
Bridgerton Season 3 Shake-Up
Meanwhile, co-creator Chris Van Dussen revealed there would be some shake-up happening in Bridgerton Season 3.
As the series will adapt the fourth brook this time, he teased the new season might deviate from Quinn's novels as he eyed to focus on another Bridgerton sibling.

"It was always my goal to focus on a different Bridgerton sibling every season, and it's no secret there are eight Bridgerton siblings," he told Entertainment Tonight. "I would love to focus on every single one of those eight Bridgerton siblings and tell romance stories for all of them."
Shimes then explained that the series might not follow the books in order, though Dussen stressed that Benedict (Luke Thompson) would always be the prime leading man.
