Is Great Pretender Razbliuto a Sequel or a Prequel?
Great Pretender Razbliuto is an original Wit Studio anime with no manga to follow, so little was known about its plot before it landed on Crunchyroll.
Even before its release, the anime was widely referred to as a sequel to Great Pretender.
Given that the 2020 series ended on a cliffhanger of sorts, it only makes sense for Razbliuto to take the story forward.
Great Pretender is no stranger to flashbacks, but a few hints, such as the heroine's shorter hair, already suggested that Razbliuto would follow Dorothy's life after the events of the series.
This was confirmed when the movie was released.
Where Does Great Pretender Razbliuto Fit into the Timeline? Theories Explored
Great Pretender Razbliuto follows Dorothy, a secondary character from the original series, in a new adventure where she's the protagonist.
Until the end of Great Pretender (2020), Laurent, Dorothy's ex-fiance, believed that she was dead and that he had successfully avenged her.
The truth turned out to be more complicated, as Dorothy was alive and suffering from amnesia.
In the final episode of Great Pretender, she is revealed to be living with an elderly couple in Taiwan, and she is now known as Xiangxiang.
At the beginning of Great Pretender Razbliuto, we get reintroduced to Dorothy who has already lived with the couple at least for many months, or possibly for a few years.
Her adoptive father has passed away, and it is clear that the old woman who took care of her in her time of need treats her as a daughter.
The new movie follows Dorothy in a brand new adventure around a new cast, although characters like Laurent, her ex-fiance, do show up.
