Gray Tal (played by Ian Alexander) was a 32nd-century transgender male orphan who joined the Tal symbiont before he was killed during an attack on his ship. In 3188, an asteroid hit the ship, injuring Gray fatally.

This occurred while he was transferring over to Adira Tal (Blu del Barrio), who was the only person who could see his entity separately, thanks to being bonded to him.

It was due to the accident that Gray needed resurrection to claim his body as his own. Here's how Gray thankfully reclaimed his body in Star Trek: Discovery season 4 episode 2 titled Anomaly.

After his lingering existence was made known to the USS Discovery crew, they found ways how to bring him back.

Gray Tal's resurrection was thanks to Doctor Hugh Culber (played by Wilson Cruz). By unjoining Gray from the Tal, the Doctor was able to transfer his consciousness into the body of a golem, aka the same process that Android Picard went through.

Gray couldn't express his gratitude for everything, especially since it meant he'd finally get to live in a physical body through the help of an 800-year-old technology.

Gaining the physical body would mean he gets to be mortal and age the same way as humans. The most that Gray was most interested in was the fact they could finally remove the mole he always hated on his hand.

Unfortunately, as heartwarming as Adira and Gray's young love is, they broke up in Star Trek: Discovery season 5 episode 3, which begs the question of whether the series plans on reuniting them on their romantic journey.
