Gotta Catch 'em All! Detective Pikachu Trading Cards Announced

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is one of this year's more interesting movies coming out, with fans wanting to be excited but also having a sense of dread when it comes to the quality. While the first trailer wasn't too bad, this movie could still fall victim to the same mistakes that Hollywood has made with other video games and anime adaptations. At least fans have some cool merch to look forward to, like these new trading cards that were announced.

According to the ever-reliable Serebii, a collection of Detective Pikachu trading cards are set for release and will be a subset to the official Pokemon TCG. There will be 24 cards in total, with at least one mystery design teased. These will be coming to Japan and the West on April 26 and May 10 respectively, the latter of which is timely since that is when the movie is coming out.

None of the designs were revealed but fans can check out what these packs could look like, with a cute design of the title character. How they managed to make a live-action Pikachu look this cute is a miracle in itself and we can only hope that more of the Pokemon look this way in the film. It's not yet clear if these trading cards will be based on the Pokemon's designs in the film, though that seems likely.

The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery.

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu comes out on May 10.
