Gotham’s Nygma & Penguin Actors Share Their Thoughts on their Evil Bromance

When Nygma knocked on the wrong door as he was burying the body of the so-called love of his life, we didn't know that the person on the other side of the door would actually make for a better partner—in crime, that is.

Ever since then, we've been teased by the comedic at times, eerie at times bond between Penguin and Nygma. Whether they're giving each other some sound advice or being the only person the other can trust, given that the women in their lives were both dead, it's undeniable that the real team-up this season is between Penguin and The Riddler.

But just how far can this bond go, and what lengths can we see their trust and dependence on each other? The latest episode in the season may have given a glimpse of this extent, but is it the real thing?

Screenrant spoke to the two actors, Cobblepot's Robin Lord Taylor and Nygma's Cory Michael Smith to get to the roots of this odd but lovable duo.

How Taylor describes it is that these are two outcasts finding someone who actually understands them—a factor that is very important to anyone who is not only misunderstood, but also alone in the world because of it.

"Well, they are both outcasts in their own way and in a way that actually complements each other. Oswald is more emotional, whereas Edward is very cerebral and they both have lost everyone in their lives. They really learn to trust each other and to have trust in Gotham City is extremely rare."

This is all well and good, but as a wishful thinking, if Smith gets his dream, he actually hoped to be the first Riddler to portray and work with sidekicks Query and Echo in a live portrayal of the gang.

With the many villains currently popping up in Gotham, this might not even be a far reality.

Gotham airs every Monday, 8:00 p.m. on Fox.
