GOTG's James Gunn Congratulates Deadpool 2's Success with Groot-Pool

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has always been one of the more vocal celebrities on Twitter, and with all the buzz surrounding the release of Deadpool 2, he's decided to publicly congratulate everyone on the team from Ryan Reynolds to David Leitch.

Check it out:

With the Disney/Fox merger still in the works, a lot of people are crossing their fingers that Marvel will eventually acquire Fox's Marvel characters—the X-Men and Fantastic Four. With Deadpool in that mix, a lot of people are looking forward to some dream team-ups, specifically Deadpool and Spider-Man.

With Deadpool's meta nature, there were several jabs at the MCU in Deadpool 2 from Thanos to Cable's Winter Soldier arm. I was actually kind of expecting some sort of call-out to Groot, but no such reference happened. Perhaps in X-Force? It could probably also happen in a Deadpool ad; anything can happen in those.

For now, Gunn is said to be working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which is set to come out sometime in 2020. Though we did see all of the Guardians turn to dust by the end of Infinity War (save for Rocket), I'm confident that most of them will be back to finish their arc in the third Guardians film.

Deadpool 2 is now out in theaters.
