Later this month, the highly-anticipated second season of Good Omens will finally premiere on Prime Video. Considering that the first season already covered the entire novel, the announcement of the show's sophomore run came as a surprise for fans.

The new season is expected to cover an entirely original story that was conceived by Neil Gaiman and, based on the trailers that they released, it looks like it will be yet again another fun adventure with Aziraphale and Crowley.

As we're heading for the release of the show's sophomore fun, there are already questions about whether it will get a third season and now we have the answer from Gaiman himself.

In an interview with SFX magazine (via GamesRadar), Gaiman addressed the possibility of a third season of Good Omens where he revealed that a story has already been plotted with the late Terry Pratchett.

He said that another installment could happen since the story of the second season serves as a connective tissue between the first and a theoretical third.

"Because the hypothetical season three exists, there is a story that is there, and I didn’t feel that we could drive straight from season one into that. I knew what the stakes were. I knew what the parameters were," he told the outlet.

"I also knew that I had David [Tennant] and Michael [Sheen]. I had the angels from plot number one. I had demons from plot number one. And with anybody that I wanted to bring back, but didn’t have room for right now, I did not have to bring them back as themselves."

If Gaiman and Prime Video do end up deciding to do a third season, it sounds like Pratchett's fingerprints will still be there which should assure fans who might be worried that it could steer away from the original vision.

Obviously, the possibility of a third season renewal still depends on the audience reception once it releases this month and, if fans will demand it afterward, they might give a greenlight soon after.

For now, let's see how the new season will unfold and what kind of plot thread will Gaiman leave in the end that could set up the hypothetical third season.
