While the fourth season is supposed to continue, the production team of the Golden Kamuy anime announced that one of the main staff members has sadly passed away. Because of this, new episodes of the new season will be delayed.
The news was revealed via the show’s website and official Twitter account.
There, details about the postponed episodes were revealed, along with a message from the production committee regarding the staff member’s passing.
Golden Kamuy Staff Member Passed Away
While it was announced that one of the main staff of Golden Kamuy Season 4 passed away on November 1, 2022, it was not explicitly mentioned who that staff member is.
There was also no word on the cause of death. What was mentioned in the committee’s message is that they express their “deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers for the repose of his soul.”
In case you’re unfamiliar, Golden Kamuy is an anime series that’s based on the manga of the same name by Satoru Noda. The manga was serialized in Weekly Young Jump from August 2014 to April 2022.
The series’ story follows Saichi Sugimoto aka the “Immortal Sugimoto”, a soldier in the Russo-Japanese war.
After the war, Sugimoto became a gold panner to provide for his dead comrade’s wife.
He soon discovers an urban legend about the gold of the native Ainu people of Hokkaido. This legend speaks of a map that’s tattooed on the skins of escaped convicts.
Soon, he sets out to find this map, and along the way, he meets Asirpa, a native Ainu girl.
They become traveling companions, with Sugimoto aiming to find the gold while Asirpa seeks revenge for her father who was one of the murdered Ainu tribesmen.

Golden Kamuy Season 4 Delayed
The first three seasons of the anime were made by Geno Studio. Though Season 4’s production was transferred to studio Brain’s Base, the studio behind shows such as Baccano! and To Your Eternity.
The show’s first three seasons were composed of 12 episodes each and were released between 2018 to 2020.
Meanwhile, Season 4 began airing in October as part of the stacked Fall 2022 anime lineup.

Because of the main staff member’s untimely passing, it was revealed that Episodes 43-49 of the anime will be postponed.
The release of the fourth Blu-ray and DVD volume will also be moved to a later date.
Right now, there’s no word yet on a new release date for the new Golden Kamuy episodes and the home video release, though we can expect that more details will be shared once the dates are finalized.
