Godzilla vs Kong Director Doesn't Expect a Hard R Rating for the Movie

While superhero movies are all the rage these days, some fans are gaining interest in the Monsterverse set of films, despite Godzilla: King of the Monsters not getting a lot of love from critics. Godzilla vs Kong is the next film in the franchise and fans can't wait to see these two giants fight on the big screen and could be IMAX worthy.

Adam Wingard, director of this movie and the controversial Death Note film on Netflix, has commented on the film's potential rating and he doesn't think it's going to be rated R. While fans would love to see a more violent monster movie, it's worth noting that the ratings board are much more open to violence when it happens to fictional monsters, so even if Godzilla rips off Kong's arm, we doubt it'll go above PG-13.

Though Wingard feels like monster movies should be on the verge of being R rated, he told Gormaru Island that he understands these movies should have a wider appeal. After all, kids love monsters like Godzilla and Kong so they shouldn't be deprived of seeing these films. Then again, kids like Deadpool and Wolverine, both of whom have R rated movies.

"You know, monster movies need to always be on the edge of being rated R, but ultimately you want it to be able to appeal to kids too. When I say that, it's coming from a guy whose favorite movie as a kid was Aliens and Terminator 2."

As a casual fan of these monster movies, I don't particularly care for the ratings. I just want to see some monster-on-monster violence and that's what Godzilla vs Kong is promising.
