With the iconic Kaiju returning to the big screens, the Monsterverse fans' biggest question in mind is why Godzilla has pink light in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Considering the Titan has always been depicted in neon blue, what changed in the recent iteration?

Godzilla x Kong Director Reveals "Pink" was Not a Random Choice

The iconic Kaiju was always recognized for its signature color blue emanating from his back's scales down to the ones on his tail. However, The New Empire does things differently and unveils the pink transformation of Godzilla.

"I wanted it to be part of the major drive of the story, why Godzilla was getting this new look," Godzilla x Kong director Adam Wingard explained in the IGN Fan Fest that the color was not picked at random, "Within the movie, there's actually reasoning behind why he actually turns pink."

According to the helmer, the transformation isn't merely based on the creature's evolution, but with something more.

Though it has something to do with Wingard's personal preference of having pink as a favorite color, there's actually another series that foreshadowed Godzilla's transformation to pink: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

Keep in mind The New Empire isn't the first time we saw Godzilla transform and evolve its scales and abilities. However, what makes pink an interesting choice has something to do with the energy source Kaiju has access to.

In this case, it's the Hollow Earth. If anything, this confirms that Godzilla can gain any sort of powers and abilities as long as it absorbs the energy the creature requires to fully transform into its next version.

This happened in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, whereby there is a theory that Godzilla must always transform after every defeat in his battles.

As a result, he grows much stronger and adapts to whatever his next iteration may need to claim his victory in his next life.

There's also a chance this may be similar to how 2019's King of the Monsters Godzilla adapted the Mothra's life force, thus gaining a new power that helped it defeat King Ghidorah.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire just hit theaters worldwide.
