It has been nearly a decade since Given began serialization, and now, it’s confirmed that Natsuki Kizu’s Given manga series is ending in March 2023.
The announcement of this long-running boys’ love (or BL) manga’s ending was made in Cheri+, the magazine where the manga is serialized.
Along with its upcoming conclusion, an “important announcement” was also revealed to happen upon the manga’s end.
Given Manga, Anime Adaptations
BL is an incredibly popular manga genre, though BL works aren’t limited to purely romance stories.
Given is one such example as it features a musical slant. Specifically, the series follows four students who form an amateur rock band. Though Given does feature major romantic elements too.
The story begins with a focus on Ritsuka and Mafuyu, the band’s guitarist and vocalist, respectively. They become romantically involved during the band’s initial formation.
After this part, the story’s romantic focus then shifts to bassist Haruki and drummer Akihiko. This part of the story coincides with the band’s preparation for a music festival performance.
Thanks to the manga’s popularity, Given has been adapted into several works, including a live-action TV Drama that was released in 2021.
This anime series made history for being the first BL series to air on Fuji TV’s Noitamina.
For reference, Noitamina is an anime programming block that’s usually reserved for big-name titles.
Meanwhile, other BL shows are often aired on Japanese networks in late time slots.

Given Manga Ending Date, Special Announcement
The manga has been running for nearly a decade now, making it a fixture in the BL community. Sadly though, its run is about to end soon.
Specifically, the last Given chapter will be released in the May issue of Cheri+, which is set to release in Japan on March 30, 2023.
While this might be sad news for long-time readers, there’s reason to hope as an important announcement will be made in March alongside the manga’s end.
Right now, there’s no word yet on what exactly this announcement will be.
Though there’s a chance that another season of the anime will be revealed, or maybe even a manga sequel or spin-off.
The Given manga is released in English through SuBLime, Viz Media's yaoi imprint.
