When (G)I-DLE shared its track, Nxde, Soyeon notably said “I'd rather be hated for who I am, than be loved for who I'm not.” She shared similar sentiments during her most recent interview with Korea JoongAng Daily’s affiliate, The JoongAng Ilbo.

The interviewer asked her about her constant daring lyrics for the group’s songs and whether she ever felt worried about the public’s response.

“There are exact expressions that express my thoughts and there are times when those expressions can't be replaced,” she said. “I’d end up being unable to express my exact thoughts if the lyrics were altered or censored. That’s why I use them to accurately express my situation. I focus on the messages I wish to deliver.”

Soyeon is famous for writing lyrics about confidence and high self-esteem. With that, (G)I-DLE’s strength is being highlighted even more.

For the group’s leader, she reportedly does not purposely write lyrics with such vibes. Instead, she writes her songs with her feelings and words, saying having good lyrics and melody is “pure luck.”

As for her works in Nxde, Soyeon explained that nude is showing her true self and finding “true love.” Through the album, the K-pop idol was able to show what she always wanted to show.

Elsewhere in the interview, she talked about (G)I-DLE’s changing identity and the memories they have so far with their fandom, Neverland. At the end of the discussion, she shared her goals as a producer.

“My aim as a producer is to produce a girl group. I wish to make a girl group that I produced from A to Z, from music to their merchandise,” she went on.
