Ghost in the Shell Director Says His Live-Action Movie "isn't the Shit HollyWood Version", New Image Released


The live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell isn't just one of the most exciting cyberpunk films coming next year, it's also one of the most exciting anime-based films, and despite the casting controversy, the first trailer suggests the film is promising.

Scarlet Johansson recently spoke with The Empire about her role as The Major in the film, saying:

"I've been a person without a body, now I'm a mind in a synthetic body. Eventually I'll go back to playing a body and brain together. This is a ride that's not just explosive and exciting, but also curious and reflective"

Director Rupert Sanders added that "this isn't the shit Hollywood version." This could mean that his version doesn't betray the cyberpunk franchise's roots, and from what we've seen in the trailer so far, it seems that Sanders is aiming for that.

Synopsis:

Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic's advancements in cyber technology.

Ghost in the Shell is based on the classic anime/manga series that was written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. The film also stars Beat Takeshi Kitano as Daisuke Aramaki, Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet, Michael Pitt as Kuze, Pilou Asbæk as Batou, and Kaori Momoi. The members of Section 9 are played by Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara, and Tuwanda Manyimo.

Ghost in the Shell will hit theaters on March 31, 2017.
