George R.R. Martin Wanted a Game of Thrones/Westworld Crossover

The last episode of Westworld had given Game of Thrones fans an Easter Egg when showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss appeared with Drogon, and this was apparently a crossover that's been coming for a longtime.

According to showrunner Jonathan Nolan, Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin had wanted a crossover since the first season. Nolan tells Variety:

"We're also friendly with George R.R. Martin, and George had consistently since the first season said, ‘We've got to do a tie-in with Game of Thrones.' People forget that George was originally a TV writer and he came up in the TV world in which you'd occasionally have these crossover shows, which the fans would fucking freak out over. So George had always been pitching the crossover show."

While the appearance of D&D and the dragon were already a pretty neat nod, fans are now hopeful that there will actually be a "WesterosWorld" at some point in the show. How awesome would it be if the show gave us a Game of Thrones setting, and Maeve would run into host versions of Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen?

With each season of Westworld, we've gotten a new kind of expansion of the park. Season 2 had given us The Raj and Shogunworld, with the third season introducing us to Warworld. With fantasy now being an option for a park expansion, I want to see what more's in store for this surreal world created by Delos Destinations.

Catch Westworld every Sunday night on HBO.
