George Miller Confirms Mad Max: Fury Road Follow-Up is Furiosa Prequel

Oh, what a day, what a lovely day! George Miller has finally confirmed that he is now developing the long-awaited follow-up to Mad Max: Fury Road and yes, it will focus on a young Furiosa.

Miller recently spoke to The New York Times as part of the outlet's oral history on Fury Road, which is currently celebrating the fifth anniversary of its premiere. Not surprisingly, the filmmaker admitted that he is already looking to cast his next project which is a Furiosa prequel. The surprise is that the script was written at the same time as the 2015 flick as a way to help Charlize Theron understand her character's origin story.

But will the upcoming movie feature Theron once again? Sadly, Miller has decided against bringing the Fate of the Furious actress back since he isn't too confident about de-aging technology that is required if you're doing a film about a young Furiosa.

"For the longest time, I thought we could just use CG de-aging on Charlize, but I don't think we're nearly there yet," Miller said. "Despite the valiant attempts on The Irishman, I think there's still an uncanny valley. Everyone is on the verge of solving it, particular Japanese video-game designers, but there's still a pretty wide valley, I believe."

Although Miller didn't confirm which actress he is already considering for the role, we may have an idea on who he has an eye on. It was previously reported that the director has met with The New Mutants star Anya Taylor-Joy. It may only be a matter of time before we get an official announcement.
