George Lucas Names Jar Jar Binks As His Favorite Character In The Star Wars Franchise

Jar Jar Binks might be one of the most hated characters in the Star Wars franchise, but it looks like the controversial Gungan has a special place in George Lucas' heart.

The Star Wars creator attended this year's Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, and during the panel for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace's twentieth anniversary, Lucas decided to admit out loud that Jar Jar is actually his favorite character in the galaxy far, far away (via Heroic Hollywood). Not only that, but Lucas named The Phantom Menace one of his favorite films in the franchise – which doesn't seem like much of a surprise considering the effort Lucas put into creating the movie.

Star Wars fans on the other hand might beg to disagree about Jar Jar Binks. While the character might have been meant as comic relief, fans couldn't help but feel annoyed by the incompetence of the character. At some point, Jar Jar became the center point that fans returned to when describing everything that went wrong with The Phantom Menace.

There was so much hate and negativity surrounding Jar Jar, it almost drove the character's actor, Ahmed Best, to commit suicide. Some fans are learning to be kinder though. While most still don't really like Jar Jar, others expressed their support for Best during The Phantom Menace panel at Star Wars Celebration. Even George Lucas has shown nothing but love for Jar Jar.

What do you think of Jar Jar Binks? Do you think that the character was as bad as fans described him to be? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
