George Lucas recently opened up about the new Star Wars projects under the ownership of Disney.

The legendary filmmaker notably sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, and since then, he has stepped back from the Star Wars franchise as he is no longer directly involved in any of the new productions.

A lot of fans have been curious about Lucas' opinion on the franchise's new direction since Disney took over the property and are wondering whether he is satisfied with where it is going today.

George Lucas Discusses New Star Wars Projects

In a recent interview, Lucas weighed in on Disney's ownership of the Star Wars franchise, where he candidly shared that he thinks some of the original ideas got lost in the new projects.

He praised the talents working on the new projects, but he also feels "hurt" a little as the franchise is growing bigger without any of his involvement.

The interview was conducted ahead of the legendary director being feted with the Honorary Palme d'Or Award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

"I was the one who really knew what Star Wars was, who actually knew this world because there’s a lot to it... Nobody understood the Force. When they started other ones after I sold the company, a lot of the ideas that were in [the original] sort of got lost," Lucas said.

"But that’s the way it is. You give it up, you give it up… [The new films have] a lot of talent, great ideas, and production. I feel like they come from my children, and sometimes it hurts a little when they grow up and get away from you."

Lucas' comments about the current state of Star Wars are understandable since he is the one who created the franchise, and his opinions will always be valuable for fans.

It is great to hear that he still showed his respect and admiration for the new creators despite his frustration about some of the ideas that the new projects presented and has accepted that it is part of the process after letting go of the franchise to a new owner.

After all, Lucas still attended the premiere event of the new films and occasionally made set visits to show his support for the creators who are following in his footsteps.
