Game of Thrones, Star Wars Force Awakens Wasn’t the Toughest For Nina Gold’s Casting Experience

The cast of Game of Thrones is probably among the hottest and easily recognizable in Hollywood today. From the Mother of Dragons Dany played by Emilia Clarke to Sophie Turner's fiercer-every-episode Sansa Stark to even the Unsullied's Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson), it's easy to spot them in any paparazzi photo or awards' show.

The same can be said for the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with new faces like Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, who portrayed the roles of the two mainstays, Rey and Finn. These roles—and the people who portrayed them—are all the handiwork of Nina Gold, the renowned casting director, set to receive the Hoyt Bowers Award from the Casting Society of America.

Interestingly, these aren't the two hardest casting projects. Gold shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the toughest she's had to cast was for the young Queen Elizabeth in The Crown.

"I didn't want to get it wrong and kill my chances of getting a damehood."

Jokes aside, it seems that Gold has had a big hand in not only getting the right actors for a particular role, but also in letting these fortunate souls find a good break in the industry.

Of course, casting is the start of every production beyond the script and story. So not only does she handle a lot of responsibility for the film, but also the fanbase that comes with it, like in the case of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. More than that, however, Gold acknowledges that there's something else that she looks forward to when casting.

"It's so exciting watching them develop and have some fresh ideas. I feel like a proud parent to lots of the wonderful actors in Game of Thrones."

We'll see Gold's great artist discoveries when Game of Thrones returns this summer.
