Game of Thrones Season 7 Will Have a Later Premiere and a Shorter Episode Count

Game of Thrones Season 7 will premiere in the summer of 2017 and will only feature seven episodes, Variety reports. Casey Bloys, the president of HBO's programming, explained why the seventh season will premiere later than it's usual April debut. ""Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing." Bloys went on to say, "Instead of the show's traditional spring debut, we're moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.."

The seventh season of Game of Thrones is expected to start shooting later this summer. The executive producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have previously stated that they planned for the final seasons of Game of Thrones to be 13 episodes in total,, so season eight will likely have a shorter episode count as well. The expected length is 6-8 episodes.

The later premiere date means that the seventh season of Game of Thrones won't be eligible for the 2017 Emmys, as it is required the show at the very least premiere sometime in May to be counted for that. The show will have to wait until 2017 to recieve any accolades similar to the 23 Emmy nominations the sixth season got.

While the delay seemed inevitable at this point, having to wait for more Game of Thrones is sure to disappoint a lot of fans. But if the story is good, it will surely e worth it. What do you think of the delay and shorter episode count?
