Nightflyers, the 1980 novella by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, is going to get a full TV series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Cable Productions is nearing a deal with Netflix to stream Nightflyers internationally.

Back in May, the show was picked up to pilot, but now they're negotating to bring Nightflyers to the small screen.

The Nightflyers is nowhere close to resembling Game of Thrones, at least in terms of setting, as it follows a crew of space explorers on the eve of Earth's demise. They travel in the galaxy's most advanced ship, the Nightflyer, as they attempt to intercept a strange mysterious alien spacecraft, but as they reach the farther expanses of the solar system, they learn that they may be going into deadly horrors.

The production for the show is underway, but they haven't announced the cast members.

Because of Martin's deal with HBO, he is not involved in the development of Nightflyers.

Jacob Ladder's Jeff Buhler has written the script for the show, and he's executive producing it alongside Mr. and Mrs. Smith's David Bartis, and Suits' Doug Liman and Gene Klein.

This sounds like an exciting series to see, and I hope that it won't turn out to be a disappointment like many of SyFy's series before.
