Gambit Is Eyeing Lizzy Caplan For The Female Lead Role

After what seemed like a rough patch, it seems that Channing Tatum's Gambit movie is moving forward, and with a production date set for early 2018, the movie is currently eyeing actresses who could play the female lead. On the top of that list is currently Master of Sex's Lizzy Caplan.

According to Variety, the production is currently looking at Caplan to play the leading lady, and though details on the role are currently under wraps, a lot of people are guessing that she'll be playing Bella Donna Boudreaux.

In the comics, Boudreaux is a childhood friend of Remy Lebeau's who ends up joining a rival criminal gang from Remy's. Just looking at that, I'm already getting a sort of Romeo and Juliet/West Side Story vibe from the film, but then again, the character has not yet been confirmed.

I'll be honest, I wasn't really optimistic about a Gambit movie, but with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski at the helm, I'm actually curious on what he has to bring to the screen. I've always thought that Gambit was better as a side character to the X-Men, but seeing him lead a movie was a questionable move for me.

Going back to Caplan, I absolutely love her as an actress. Not only does she look gorgeous, but she also has the comedy chops to make for a likeable heroine. You'd think they would have cast her as Domino in the Deadpool sequel instead.

Gambit is set for a release on Valentine's Day 2019.
