Gal Gadot Explains How To ‘Play A Superhero’ Like Wonder Woman

The talk of the town right now may be the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but one of the film's highlights is Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman.

I'm pretty sure there's a lot of pressure on Gadot portraying such an iconic character for the first time on the silver screen, but it seems like treating the character as a "normal woman" helped the Israeli actress give the character justice.

Gadot explained her method in portraying the Amazon warrior while speaking with Variety:

People might think you should play the superhero, but how do you play a superhero? At the end of the day, we're all people. What's so lovely about Wonder Woman is yes, she has the strength and power of a goddess, but she has the heart and mind of a human.
So I play her as I think a woman like me would act in the situations she's going through. You treat her as a normal woman who happens to be fantastic and almighty.

Apparently, all it takes is getting into character as Diana Prince first then Wonder Woman second. Seems easier said than done though. The best superhero performances have had the same struggle. Being human is such a basic yet essential part of being a hero that countless comic book films have focused on this superhero complexity and which audiences can relate to.

Gadot has applied the same method to her upcoming standalone Wonder Woman movie as well.

The 30-year-old actress' technique seems to have worked too, at least based on what critics said of her performance in Batman v Superman.

The film hits theaters on Friday, March 25.
