Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse for Wonder Woman 1984, a lot of fans who have seen the DCEU sequel are coming out on social media to point out the film's uber problematic issues and no, we're not talking about the film's lack of action or the disappointing Cheetah CGI. In fact, it's something much more serious.

WW1984 marks the return of Chris Pine as Steve Trevor and although he died in the first film after his ultimate sacrifice, he was brought back in the sequel thanks to the power of the mystical dream stone that grants the desires of the person in possession of it. Let's make things perfectly clear though, it wasn't exactly Trevor in the flesh but instead, his consciousness was somehow transferred to another man's body.

That is where the "problematic" nature of the film stems from. There were a couple of scenes in the film which feature Diana and Steve sharing intimate moments together and a lot of fans believe it could definitely pass as sexual assault considering the real owner of the body Trevor's spirit "possessed" wasn't truly aware of what was going on.

A lot of DC fans have raised this concern through social media and boy, they are furious, to say the least. On top of that, WW1984 is also being accused of promoting xenophobia and people aren't pleased with its offensive portrayal of Arab people. Check out some of the reactions below:

Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins have yet to address the backlash their film has been getting although I'm pretty sure they never intended for those scenes to come across as something so controversial. It can't be denied though that the fans' growing concern over Wonder Woman 1984's problematic issues may affect the film's box office and critical performance in the long run.

Wonder Woman 1984 is screening in select cinemas and on HBO Max.
