Hiromu Arakawa is one of the most renowned modern manga artists. Now, the Fullmetal Alchemist creator’s autobiographical comedy manga Hyakushou Kizoku is getting an anime adaptation.

While many of Arakawa’s works have gotten anime, it was recently announced that another unexpected manga of hers will get an adaptation.

Fullmetal Alchemist is easily Hiromu Arakawa’s most popular work. After all, both the original manga and the Brotherhood adaptation are considered by many to be among the best shounen series ever.

While FMA is the work that defined her career, Arakawa has lots of other titles that are similarly praised.

Among them is Silver Spoon, a coming-of-age series that follows Yuugo Hachiken who enrolls in an agricultural school.

Silver Spoon is quite different from FMA, though it is something closer to her own experiences given that she helped in her family’s dairy farm during her childhood.

Along with these, Arakawa is also known for The Heroic Legend of Arslan, an ongoing historical fantasy manga that’s serialized in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine.

This manga got an anime adaptation back in 2015 from Liden Films.

As for Hyakushou Kizoku, this comedy manga began back in 2006 and has since gotten new chapters from time to time.

Similar to Silver Spoon, this series is all about farming, though it is more of an autobiographical work that’s based more closely on her childhood days at her family’s Hokkaido farm.

Arakawa’s Hyakushou Kizoku Comedy Manga Is Getting an Anime

Recently, an anime adaptation of Hyakushou Kizoku was announced, which will be animated by Pie in the sky.

Along with the announcement, a key visual for the show was released that features the series’ two main characters alongside various farm animals.

Also revealed is the show’s voice cast which includes Mutsumi Tamura (Kobayashi in Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid), Mariko Honda (Yuuko Aioi in Nichijou), Shigeru Chiba (Sebas Tian in Overlord), and Kujira (Otose in Gintama).

Given the light nature of the show, this upcoming anime promises to be a comfy anime to watch, meaning it should be a good palate cleanser for Summer 23’s upcoming action titles.

Hyakushou Kizoku will premiere in Japan on July 7, 2023. For now, there’s no word yet on where it will be streamed internationally.
