The anime series Fruits Basket has been in existence for two decades and has been animated twice, first by Studio Deen then later by TMS Entertainment. A much-loved show, the producers of the show just announced that it will have a prequel spinoff story titled The Story of Kyoko and Katsuya and it will focus on the parents of Tohru Honda.

This new show has not been specified whether it will be a movie, an OVA, or a TV series, but it has been proudly announced by the producers of the show on Twitter just after the finale of the anime series aired in Japan. They thanked the viewers for sticking with them for such a long time and they get the word out that The Story of Kyoko and Katsuya is indeed happening.

Fruits Basket is based on the manga series by Natsuki Takaya which was first published in 1998. It follows the story of Tohru Honda, who lived with his grandfather after her mother died but was ejected by an unkind family member, making her support herself and live in a tent. He later lived with the Soma family who has kept a secret or a curse – they turn into an animal from the zodiac when hugged by the opposite gender or stressed out.

The announcement came with a trailer as well of what to expect in the prequel spinoff and it will focus on the parents of Tohru Honda. They also said that it will be in production in 2022 but no release date has been given yet.

Fruits Basket finale episode is coming via Crunchyroll on June 28, 2021.
