Land is a second-class mage in the Fourth Party of the First-Class Mage Exam. His expertise lies in the practice of clone magic.

He is known for his cool demeanor and is overly cautious and calculated in his ways.

He favors a strategy of patience, opting to allow his opponents to take the initiative. This approach enables him to meticulously analyze them, identifying their weak points.

Using his clone magic, he seizes opportunities to catch his enemies off guard, ensuring he remains out of harm’s way.

Meanwhile, Ubel, a first-class mage, is known for her mischievous antics.

She took part in the same First-Class Mage Exam alongside Fern and Frieren. Before the exam, she held the rank of a third-class mage.

Despite her notorious reputation, Ubel goes out of her way to empathize with others and understand them better, often going to great lengths such as shadowing a subject.

Ubel and Land find themselves on the same team for the initial phase of the First-Class Mage Exam.

In the beginning, Ubel teases Land because of his glasses and introverted nature, but her intentions are not evil.

Later, Ubel approaches Land, expressing a desire to talk. However, Land is clear that he has no intentions of conversing with her.

He outrightly expresses that he hates her, and she can choose to kill him. He seems to know why Ubel is so keen to befriend him.

Turns out, Ubel wants to learn Land’s clone magic. Ubel informs Land that she has started falling for him and wishes to know him at a deeper level.

Ubel also follows Land throughout Auberst in an attempt to speak with him.

During the second stage of the exam, they end up in the Ruins of the King’s Tomb.

Inside the ruins, they are attacked by the Spiegel clone of Ubel, who badly injures Land.

Ubel expresses concern for Land’s injury, asking if the one bleeding is the real Land or a clone.

She gives him her escape golem, but he declines, indicating his priority is self-preservation.

Recognizing Land's reluctance to let others perish, Ubel deduces it's a clone bleeding out. She leaves him a bottle and confronts her clone alone.

Eventually, Land manages to beat the clone. Grateful, Ubel acknowledges a deeper understanding of Land.
