The anime’s ending saddened many Frieren fans, and now, even the manga will not get new chapters soon. That’s because the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga has entered yet another hiatus.
This latest break for Frieren was announced in the latest Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine issue where chapter 130 of the manga was released.
Sadly, the hiatus may be a longer one than fans expected. While week-long breaks are common for manga that are serialized weekly, the latest Frieren hiatus is indefinite with no specific return date.
Frieren Manga Announces Another Indefinite Hiatus
Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe’s Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga began serialization in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday back in April 2020.
Since then, the series has become one of the magazine’s most popular titles. It further got a boost in popularity thanks to the Madhouse anime adaptation, which helped the series double its circulation numbers.
A second season for the anime has not yet been announced, though it’s no doubt going to get a continuation. Aside from being a huge hit globally, there is enough material in the manga to cover.
While there are still enough chapters that haven’t been adapted into the anime, new chapter releases for the manga have become slower.
The Frieren manga got new chapters weekly in its first two years, with only week-long breaks in between. In 2022, the creators began taking longer breaks.
Then in 2023, the manga had two noteworthy hiatuses, with the first one being around two months long and the other being nearly five months long.
Thankfully, none of the hiatuses were as long as the ones in Hunter x Hunter.
Now, the series is on another hiatus. Much like the previous hiatus periods, there is no word on a return date, though it’s likely to return in the next couple of months based on the previous hiatuses.

Will the Frieren Manga Change Its Release Schedule?
Given how difficult a weekly release schedule is, it won’t be surprising to see Frieren shift to a slower release schedule.
After all, that was effectively the case in late 2023. While there were chapters released within just a week of each other, the Frieren chapters in December were released bi-weekly.
Because of this, some fans are already expecting the manga to shift to a bi-weekly release schedule. While some are saddened by this, most are understanding of the situation and wish the creators well.
