Frank Grillo Backtracks Avengers 4 Statement Saying He “Confirmed Nothing” About Crossbone’s Appearance

It looks like Marvel star Frank Grillo is backtracking on his little reveal confirming the return of Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's culminating movie, Avengers 4. Grillo previously played the HYDRA agent Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, so when fans heard the actor confirming the character's return to the MCU, there was nothing but excitement.

Now, it looks like Grillo is correcting himself, changing his stance by uploading a new photo on Instagram. Posting a picture that reads "Actor Frank Grillo confirms that his character, Crossbones, will make an appearance in a flashback in Avengers 4," the actor writes a caption denying the statement, telling fans that the headline is nothing but "#fakenews. In the course of a day, i get asked 1000 questions about a character i played for 8 minutes. I've confirmed nothing. But sometimes i have fun w people who ask. #moveon."

This seems like quite a surprise since Grillo gave a very different answer when he was on the UFC Unfiltered podcast. There, the actor explicitly confirmed Crossbone's return through a flashback in Avengers 4, telling the host that his character "makes an appearance in the next Avengers movie, but it's a flashback."

Now it looks like the actor's trying to backtrack on his statement, blaming it on having fun with the hosts. From our perspective though, it seems like Marvel may have not been too happy with Grillo's little reveal, forcing the actor to undo the slip-up. Hopefully, the studio decides to keep the character's cameo in the movie.

Avengers 4 hits cinemas May 3, 2019.
