Prior to the theatrical release of Five Nights at Freddy's, movie director Emma Tammi shed light on a potential sequel in an interview with SFX Magazine:

"I think we would all feel so fortunate to be able to continue making movies in this universe and with these characters. It'll all depend on how things go with this first one, but should we be lucky enough to make more, I would absolutely want to be involved and would feel lucky to be included in those sequels, should they happen."

As for recent news, helmer Tammi once again shared a hopeful response of a FNAF 2 possibly happening sometime in the future (via Inverse):

"Yes, I would for sure. I think we would all be really excited to dive into that if this [first movie] does well, and if it seems like audiences have an appetite for that, we would be so excited to make it."

Five Nights at Freddy's Movie Opens the Biggest Box Office Weekend For Blumhouse

Prior to its theatrical release, Five Nights at Freddy's opened with a whopping $130M worldwide, which could pretty much secure its spot of making sequels, or even complete its trilogy.

The only thing Blumhouse Productions would have to keep track of is the consistency of this project skyrocketing its box office records until the end of its cinematic run.

Considering that the film only cost around $20M to make, this already marks a huge success that's waiting to happen for the franchise.

If we consider that the titular animatronics are not going anywhere, then for sure, we should expect Kevin Foster's Freddy Fazbear, Jess Weiss' Chica, and Jade Kindar-Martin's Bonnie to return.

There's also Matthew Lillard's Steve Raglan/William Afton, who may return to hunt down more victims at the pizzeria.

However, it remains to be seen if we could say the same thing about Josh Hutcherson's Mike Schmidt and Piper Rubio's Abby Schmidt if they do end up surviving their nights at Freddy's.

The least we could do for now is speculate that the aforementioned actors and characters would likely return, alongside Elizabeth Laila's Vanessa Monroe and Mary Stuart Masterson's unnamed villain.

Seeing as the first Five Nights at Freddy's movie is just releasing tomorrow in theaters, and the sequel has not been confirmed, there's no official synopsis for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 yet.

However, the franchise does have a long line of video games to base their sequel on, so there would be no problem about setting up on that.

The only thing the director is concerned about is whether the first film would even make a box office record.

For now, here's the official synopsis for the Five Nights at Freddy's movie:

The terrifying horror game phenomenon becomes a blood-chilling cinematic event, as Blumhouse - the producer of M3GAN, The Black Phone, and The Invisible Man - brings Five Nights at Freddy's to the big screen.
The film follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy's won't be so easy to make it through.

Is There a Trailer For Five Nights at Freddy's 2?
