Ever since the merger between Fox and Disney, a lot of fans have been calling for the reboot of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and The Olympians series. With the Investors' Call happening today, Riordan himself has shared a little teaser for Disney's reboot of his IP.
Riordan apparently posted this up on his TikTok:
We don't know exactly what Disney has planned for the series, but it's assumed that each season will cover one book, much like what happened with Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events with Netflix.
So far, no cast members have been announced, but with the Investors' Call maybe we can at least get the name of a showrunner to have a look at some concept art—maybe even a premiere date.
While the Millenials had Harry Potter, it's the Gen Z kids who had grown up with the world of Percy Jackson, and it was kind of a disappointment the way that 20th Century Fox tried to adapt those films. No offense to Logan Lerman, but the movies kind of dropped the modernized Greek gods and dropped a lot of great world-building elements that Riordan was setting up in the books.
Hopefully, with Riordan more directly involved, we'll have something a lot more faithful to the series, while at the same time remaining relevant for a new generation of kids. Of course, let's not also forget the young adults who were the reason the series became a success in the first place.
No release date has been set for Percy Jacksonand The Olympians, but hopefully, Disney reveals it later today.
