First 'Equals' Trailer Shows Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart Finding Love in Emotionally Desolate World

In early February, the first teaser trailer for the sci-fi drama, Equals, was released. It provided a quick glimpse into the story of the characters of Nicholas Hoult (Silas) and Kristen Stewart (Nia), both of whom fall in love in a society where emotions are banned and genetically abolished.

Today, the first full trailer for the futuristic drama was released ahead of the film’s U.S. premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. We now see how the two were able to form their connection, which would endanger both their lives. Silas and Nia are part of a group called “The Collective,” which has eliminated crime and violence but at the cost of eliminating any kind of human emotion as well.

It appears that the work of The Collective is not full proof since Silas and Nia still form a growing attraction that eventually turns into a forbidden relationship.

Check out the trailer below:

Directed by Drake Doremus (Like Crazy) from a script by Nathan Parker, Equals also stars Jacki Weaver, Bel Powley, Guy Pearce, and Kate Lyn Sheil.

The storyline of Equals somewhat reminds me of The Giver - emotions are all but eliminated in order to achieve utopia. Personally, the story doesn't appear that fresh to me, but hopefully Doremus was able to added some surprise to the plot that would set it apart from other sci-fi dramas.

The film is slated for release on July 15.
