Sci-fi Dystopian Romance 'Equals' Teaser Trailer Released, Stars Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult

The teaser trailer for a new science fiction romantic drama titled Equals has been released by distributor A24. Directed by Drake Doremus (Like Crazy) and produced by Ridley Scott, Michael Schaefer, Ann Ruark, and Jay Stern, the film stars Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Kristen Stewart (Twilight film saga) as two lonely souls who find love in an emotionless world.

The setting for Equals is desolate future where any emotion is forbidden by law. Any kind of feeling is referred to as a disease called “Switched On Syndrome,” and Hoult and Stewart are two of the people who gets afflicted by the “disease.”

The aesthetic of the teaser trailer shows perfectly how the film plans to portray itself – about a world that stresses colorless and stoic uniformity. Shots look well composed and has that feel like any other futuristic film.

Personally, I don’t find the plot to be particularly fascinating. If anything, it probably will be seen mostly because of its principal cast, which is Stewart and Hoult. Supporting cast include Guy Pearce, Bel Powley, Jacki Weaver, and Toby Huss.

The film appears to be in the ranks of Her, Gattaca, and The Island. I don’t expect to be any surprised if ever I decide to see this film, but I could be wrong. It’s just a teaser trailer after all. There could be more to the film than what’s seen in the trailer.

Equals will be released sometime 2016.
