Though we only got the show in 2018, Lucasfilm is already looking to end Star Wars Resistance. The finale is set to come out this Sunday, and Disney XD has dropped what looks to be the final teaser.
As you can see, the events take place right after The Last Jedi, as Kylo Ren is now being referred to as the Supreme Leader. With The Rise of Skywalker making a time jump since the events of TLJ, it would be interesting to see just how Kylo gains control over everything; personally I want to know how the stormtroopers would react.
While Star Wars Rebels being another beloved series by the fanbase, a lot of people can't help but think that Lucasfilm is cutting things short with Resistance. I actually like the premise of the show, what with the story focusing on non-Force users; but I just thought the animation wasn't the best choice. With the show ending now, I don't think too many people will be remembering what Resistance was about.
When I think about it, maybe Resistance needed to end because Lucasfilm still had no idea what would take place after The Rise of Skywalker. They wanted TROS to feel like a definitive end to the franchise, and I guess it would be weird if Resistance just kept going.
Either way, I would love for Disney+ to give us some kind of "Holiday Special" which will serve as some kind of epilogue to The Rise of Skywalker. I mean, if Breaking Bad got El Camino several years after the finale, maybe Disney+ could do the same with Rey, Finn, and Poe.
The finale for Star Wars Resistance will last for an hour and will play on Disney XD this Sunday.
