Final Fantasy VII Remake Director Discusses the Game's Progress and Previous Misinformation

Final Fantasy VII is a bonafide classic, so it's easy to see why there are a lot of people who are excited and anxious about the remake coming out. We've seen a few gameplay clips that were pretty impressive but it seems like the game is still in early development, though there were some reports that claimed no development was made. Thankfully, Nomura has clarified these in a recent interview, which should put a lot of concerns to rest.

Nomura confirmed that the supposed lack of development wasn't official and the game is actually progressing nicely, which he told Famitsu (via Kotaku). He also said that Square Enix is currently focusing on the release of Kingdom Hearts III, which is why the remake hasn't been in the spotlight as of late. Expect things to change once the game comes out.

Tetsuya Nomura has been directing the Kingdom Hearts franchise for the longest time, so it's no surprise that the Final Fantasy VII remake uses a similar battle engine. It obviously won't be a complete copy/paste of the Kingdom Hearts combat but its roots did start from there. Nomura also directed Final Fantasy XV, which has a messy story and great combat, so basically a typical Nomura video game.

As of this writing, there is no release date for the Final Fantasy VII remake, though we do know that it will be coming out on the PS4. In the meantime, fans can check out the original Final Fantasy VII on PS4 right now, which is based on the PC port.
