To further hype up the game’s release, Koei Tecmo shared the third trailer for Fate/Samurai Remnant, the upcoming action RPG in the hugely popular Fate franchise.
This new trailer is a meaty one as it features new gameplay footage, including combat and exploration of the game’s Edo period setting. The trailer also showcases new characters, complete with more story details.
One thing that’s not entirely clear from the trailer is how Samurai Remnant fits into the larger Fate universe. After all, the Fate series is massive, complete with multiple universes and timelines.
How Fate/Samurai Remnant Fits Into the Fate Universe
The Fate series began with the original Fate/stay night visual novel. Now though, the franchise has gotten numerous spinoffs and projects such as Fate/Grand Order, Fate/strange Fake, and more.
Fate/Samurai Remnant is the latest entry in the long-running franchise. From the looks of it, this game is set in a separate universe from other Fate titles, though it does feature some familiar faces, including the likes of Jeanne (Alter).
As you may have guessed from its title, the game is set in the Edo Period. Players take on the role of Miyamoto Iori, the adopted son of the legendary ronin, Miyamoto Musashi.
In the game, Iori gets entangled in the Waxing Moon Ritual which is essentially a Holy Grail War that fans of Fate will be familiar with.
Soon, Iori becomes the master of Saber, though it’s not clear who this Saber is exactly.
What can be said for certain is that Iori and Saber will face off against other Masters and Servants, as well as rogue Servants that roam the lands.

Fate/Samurai Remnant Trailer Features New Gameplay Preview
Samurai Remnant was announced back in late 2022, and it is being developed by Omega Force, the studio behind the Dynasty Warriors games.
Because of this, the game’s action RPG combat system should be reminiscent of Omega Force’s other titles.
Instead of controlling Saber though, Iori will be the player character, with Saber serving as a supporting character.
Aside from combat, the new trailer also details the game’s exploration and Edo period Japan setting. Check it out here:
Specifically, the trailer shows off the historical Japan setting where players upgrade their equipment and buy a wide range of items that can help them in combat.
Fate/Samurai Remnant will be released on PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC on September 28, 2023.
