The entire entertainment industry was rocked following the announcement of Johnny Depp's shocking departure from the third Fantastic Beasts film. In case you missed it, Warner Bros. requested Depp to withdraw from the project due to the controversy surrounding his personal life which also happens to concern his ex-wife and Aquaman star Amber Heard.

Now, several reports have claimed that DoctorStrange star Mads Mikkelsen will officially take over from Depp following his exit in the yet-to-be-titled Fantastic Beasts 3 but according to Mikkelsen himself, it's all but a huge rumor at this point.

Talking to IGN, Mads dismissed the previous news that has been circulating over the last couple of weeks linking him to the upcoming project. "Oh, that is on the rumor basis as we speak," he said. "So I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So I'm waiting for that phone call.." Although nothing has been officially confirmed yet, Mikkelsen is reportedly director David Yates' top choice to be the new Gellert Grindelwald so it's safe to assume at this point that we're just waiting for formality.

All confusion aside, Johnny Depp's huge loss will be another actor's massive gain, that's for certain. While it's quite unfortunate seeing how Depp is slowly hitting rock bottom right before our eyes, there's really nothing we can do about the matter. One can only hope that once the issue subsides, Depp will be able to bounce back from everything and start all over again. A lot of people are rooting for the guy.

Fantastic Beasts 3 is slated for release in 2022.
