Fantastic Beasts 2: Jude Law Says the World Should Be Ready for Dumbledore as a Gay Icon

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has finally been released and fans have pretty mixed opinions about the sequel. While the first movie was a solid start to a new franchise set in the Harry Potter universe, the sequel seems to try too hard to set things up for future films. Not helping is the fact that there are more movies in the franchise scheduled to come out, so this mess could have been avoided entirely.

Still, there are quite a few positives to take away from it, one of them being Jude Law as Dumbledore. His character manages to be charming and sincere, which is exactly what hardcore Potter fans expected. It seems like Law wants to take things to the next level with Dumbledore, saying that the world should be ready for the Hogwarts headmaster to be gay.

When asked by the New York Times if the world was ready for a gay children's icon, Law simply said: "I think the world is ready for it, and if it isn't, it bloody well should be." This is a pretty great response from Law and should put a smile on the faces of many Harry Potter fans, gay or otherwise.

J.K. Rowling might be a subject for controversy these days but many will always love the author for her work on the Harry Potter books. When she revealed that Dumbledore was gay in 2007, many applauded her for making one of the series' best characters a great representation of the LGBTQ. Granted, she didn't show this in the books, which would have helped a lot, and none of the movies have shown this, but the next Fantastic Beasts movie could always change that.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is now showing.
