Fantastic Beasts 2 Has the Lowest Opening for the Harry Potter Franchise

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald came out last Friday, and the film was met with a lot of lukewarm reviews online. As it turns out, the movie is actually the lowest grossing film of the Harry Potter franchise—domestically at least.

As per Box Office Mojo, Fantastic Beasts 2's opening weekend grossed $62.2 million. It's worth noting that the lowest grossing film in the franchise was the first Fantastic Beasts ($74.4 million); with the lowest opening of an actual Potter film being Order of the Phoenix ($77.1 million).

Worldwide Fantastic Beasts 2 had already grossed $253.2 million making up for its $200 million budget, but the film still has a long way to go before it can break even. There's still the marketing to account for when it comes to these films. Either way, I think WB is confident enough to push forward with their new franchise of Wizarding World films.

Why do I have a feeling that brand means other movies outside of Fantastic Beasts?

Personally, I thought that the first movie was a lot better compared to this sequel. For one, the title doesn't do justice to the film. The film isn't about any Fantastic Beasts, and the "crimes" of Grindelwald don't really get highlighted. Besides that, the plot is a tad scattered, and I found myself asking why specific parts of the film were in it at all.

But that's just my opinion. I'm just waiting online for more people to share their thoughts so we can see where Crimes of Grindelwald really stands when it came to fan reception.
