Fantastic Beasts 2 Getting an Extended Cut

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was already a big mess of a film, but the home release—just like the DCEU movies—looks to be fixing this with an extended cut.

The extended cut of Fantastic Beasts 2 was seemingly confirmed by Discussing Film who reports that it will only be available for the digital release. Then again, I'm still convinced that WB is planning on releasing it for Blu-Ray as well.

Personally, I don't know how an extended cut of the film works, seeing as the movie is already pretty long-winded and boring. Sure we get a few scenes of magic in the film, but we get even more scenes of annoying exposition with the film literally stopping dead in its tracks to have everyone reveal who's really who.

When it comes down to it, the title of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald doesn't fit in any sense. The movie isn't about Newt and more magical creatures, and it doesn't pore into the alleged crimes of Gellert Grindelwald as well. If anything, it's just a long trailer for the eventual clash of Dumbledore with a recently revealed third brother (which I'm still convinced is a mind-wiped Voldemort).

I know that Fantastic Beasts is still aiming for more movies down the line, but unless WB makes some kind of dramatic rewrite, it feels like this franchise is going to be one slow trainwreck.

No release date has been set for the third Fantastic Beasts film.
